In the beginning...
Over the course of my life most of my "investing" has, like many others, mostly taken the form of company 401k's - without much direction from myself and self-directed investment journey began fairly innocently in February of 2006 with the purchase of single shares of Pixar (for myself) and DaimlerChrysler (for the wife) through a company called OneShare as presents.
Later through a promotional email that I received from OneShare I would open up an account at ShareBuilder in September of 2007 and begin investing in shares of Wal-mart in addition to my other, shall we say, bare-bone holdings.
Gradually, over time, various changes took place in my personally-directed portfolio - Pixar was acquired by Disney (my Pixar investment became more valuable seemingly overnight), I sold off the DaimlerChrysler after their nasty breakup and ShareBuilder was acquired by CapitalOne which was then eventually sold off to E-trade.
Over the years I'd never given much thought to investing myself with the barrier of entry being high for a small time investor like myself. Then in August of 2019 I was invited to open an account with Sofi Investing and I discovered a whole new world of investing with 'fractional shares' - all of a sudden I realized that even an 'average joe' like myself could start investing and building a portfolio.
Today, a little over a year later, and I now have holdings in 140 different companies spread out over 20 different brokerages (those pesky signup bonuses LOL).
And now I'm inviting you all - family, friends and followers - to join me as I document my journey into Dividend Investing.
